Do you want to learn and play Ultimate Frisbee in Mumbai? Then we’re right here for you.

I thought of writing a blog post about this in the hope to share better what we do because Ultimate Frisbee is a niche sport with dynamic movements and usually we perceive it to be restricted to picnics whereas it is an actual sport with rules, different styles of throwing and it’s also recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

So here’s what we do…

Our Ultimate Frisbee Classes:

We currently have three batches – for children and for adults.

Ultimate Frisbee for Kids

For children, our age criteria is 7-13 for girls and boys.

The reason why we have chosen this age category is because children are most receptive and mouldable – it allows us to inculcate the principles of the spirit of the game, develop motor skills, physical and mental fitness as well as help children experience teamwork.

To know more about how Ultimate Frisbee benefits children, and more about the Spirit of the Game (SOTG), we’ve created some relevant blog posts below.

Please also note that Ultimate Frisbee is a mixed gender sport, no-contact sport and so we encourage both girls and boys to join the sport.

We have two opportunities for children in Mumbai

Ultimate Frisbee for Adults

We started our introduction sessions with children and their parents. Seeing how much parents enjoyed the sport, we decided to start a batch for adults – women and men, age 18+.

We find that at the end of an hour’s session, the adults are rejuvenated and are really glad they got themselves out of bed on a Sunday morning.

There’s definitely something special about Ultimate that helps everyone feel comfortable quite quickly – plus starting your day on the beach is always worth it.

But to share more in detail, it’s very important for us that the adults don’t just play and get by with limited skills, instead we look to teach properly – the skill of throwing (there are various throws), catching, developing good offensive and defensive skills as well as help build stamina.

Details:

Age: 18+ (women & men)
Day: On Sundays
Timing: 9am to 10am
Place: Juhu Beach

A bit about us:

We have two Co-Founders – Samarth Shetty & Shruti Chopra.

Samarth has been playing Ultimate Frisbee for over 14 years, representing team India in Hong Kong, London, France. In recent years, he has also coached local Indian and state teams. He does so because, he says “the sport has allowed me to grow as a person and has taught me to work with other players during challenging situations.” Something that he wishes to pass on to the next set of players.

Which is why he’s not only our co-founder, but he’s also the coach – planning and leading the sessions for both children and adults.

Shruti is a sports enthusiast and also the content creator behind everything you see. You will find her on the beach on Sunday mornings shooting video and photos of the sessions. And when she gets a chance to, she works on her throws as well!

We also have advisors and guest coaches – to know more about them and know more about Samarth and Shruti, you can here:

Why We Do, What We Do

Ultimate Frisbee rules imbibe many beautiful principles, such as fair play – it’s a self-officiated sport and so players resolve their disputes on field showing us that true fair-play can be adopted as a main aspect of the game.

As mentioned earlier, it’s a no-contact sport where women and men are seen playing together – this builds better understanding and respect between genders.

But still, why do we do what we do – we coach and educate about Ultimate because of all that it stands for – the principles just shared are very valuable to us as people (and an organisation) and so we wish to help grow a sport that exposes children and adults to these values.
